Fatwa issued against Shah Rukh Khan refers to him as Kafir

Mumbai, June 23: The storm surrounding Shah Rukh Khan`s supposed controversial comments on Prophet Mohammed seems to have taken a grave turn now - an Islamic seminary has issued a fatwa (legal ruling) against SRK over the same.

According to reports, the fatwa has been issued by Mufti Mohammed Shoeb Raza Qadri and Mufti Muti-ur-Rehman of the ‘Darul-uloom-Mazhar-e- Islam’, who have stated that the entire Muslim community was hurt by Shah Rukh`s comments.

Mufti Mohammed has apparently called Shah Rukh a ‘Kafir’ (non-believer) and has even gone to the extent of saying that such a person should be thrown out of the Muslim community. He is believed to have said that in an Islamic state such remarks would have called for a death penalty against the accused. What’s all the more surprising is the fact that Mufti has also attacked SRK with a personal comment which goes like this- “Shah Rukh`s marriage with Gauri was nullified and Shah Rukh must not be allowed to be buried in any Muslim graveyard.”

However, the Bareilly-based Markazi Darul Ifta, which is responsible for issuing fatwas for the Barelvi sect, dismissed the decree saying the move by the two clerics was ‘unnecessary’. “If someone is saying that he has not made statements (against the Prophet), then what is the need to issue a fatwa,” said a spokesperson of the Ifta.

Shah Rukh has strongly denied the comments attributed to him in an interview published in a magazine, saying he had been misquoted.
